What oil to run?

sorry, I write in English.

What oil are you guys running? My American manual says 5w30 for everyday and 15w50 for track days. I do drive rather aggressively on the autobahn, and I go to nurburgring once or twice a month. In the summer, when it was hot, I saw oil temp go up very high (almost to red line). I'm thinking of switching to 15w50 for everyday driving.

first of all you should get used to put your name under everything you write.

and yes the red C 7 is mine.

I brougt it here when i moved from New Mexico to Germany.

I made all the changes to EU spec on my own.

I've been using Mobile 1 15W50 for almost 10,000 Km on a daily base
including the Autobahn and never had a problem with Oil temp.

Sins you can buy it on base, (i guess) for a reasonable price, i can recommand it for day by day use.

I have a summer season licence plate from April to October so next saturday ist end of season.

we can meet but the Corvette is almost ready for storage.

thank you for the info.

American warranty covers first 5 oil changes, and my dealer here told me that he will honor that. However when I spoke to him yesterday, he said that only 5w30 is covered under warranty :( I may have to contact regional rep or something. I wonder what the german owners manual says.

I have all season plates, so i'll drive it until the first snow. I'd love to meet with you and get more info on converting.

Ilya, that´s correct, don´t use 15W50 when you want to stay under warrenty and avoid valve lifter noise.

du schreibst zu viel, und weißt offensichtlich garnicht mehr was.

Im letzten C7 Öl-Thread Feb.2015 hast du noch genau das Gegnteil geschrieben.

Die Garantie ist nicht weg das hat sich auch in dem letzten C7 Öl- Thread geklärt:

Er hatte wohl den Händler angefragt.

Die US Garantie geht auch nicht verloren das hatte ich schon in meiner Zeit in den USA geklärt.


Und wo nimmst du deine Infos über "valve lifter noise" her, du fährst doch gar kein 15-W50 ?

Nach knapp 10000 Km mit 15W50 hatte ich nie auch nur ein einziges Mal irgend ein Geräuch, im Gegenteil,
der Motor scheint sogar ruhiger zu laufen, und heißer als 126 Grad C wurde mein ÖL noch nie, auch nicht bei längeren Fahrten über 280 Km/h.

dont worry, warranty will still cover, but you should call your regional rep to be save.
And the last 10,000 Km with 15W50 there was never any valve lifter noise .

that was really helpfull.

when i drive its always "competitive driving"

by the way "GM recommends"

Translation: vorschlagen, empfehlen.

that means

the only thing you have to do, is using 05W30 or 15W50 (read the manual)

what brand is you choise.

GM recommands 5w-30 because the Corvette needs 2 % less fuel.

Heiner, das nehme ich aus den Erfahrungen mit Fällen in der letzten Zeit. Deshalb, um auf der absolut sicheren Seite zu sein, würde ich mich während der Garantie strikt an die GM Vorgabe halten, nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Das bezog sich nicht auf meine C7 und soll auch nicht heißen, daß ich meine oder beurteilen könnte, ob ein 15W50 ungeeignet wäre.
